SLA — Service Level Agreement
Definition
A formal commitment between a service provider and customer specifying performance metrics (uptime, response time, support availability) and penalties for missing targets.
Context & Usage
IT hardware SLAs cover warranty replacement timing (next-business-day vs 4-hour), support response time, and incident resolution. Major OEM SLAs: Dell ProSupport (NBD, 4-hour), HPE Foundation Care (NBD, CTR), Lenovo Premier Support. Cloud SLA examples: AWS EC2 99.99% (4 minutes downtime/month). Refurbished hardware can be paired with 3rd-party SLAs (Park Place, Curvature) for production-grade support.
Examples
- AWS RDS Multi-AZ SLA 99.99% monthly uptime
- Dell ProSupport 4-Hour Mission Critical
