SASE — Secure Access Service Edge

Definition

A network architecture that combines wide-area networking (SD-WAN) with cloud-native security services (ZTNA, SWG, CASB, FWaaS) delivered as a single cloud-based platform.

Context & Usage

SASE was introduced by Gartner in 2019. It consolidates network and security infrastructure into a unified cloud service, replacing the traditional "appliance stack" model. Major vendors: Cisco SASE, Palo Alto Prisma SASE, Zscaler SASE, Cato Networks SASE.
