ZTNA — Zero Trust Network Access
Definition
A security model that requires every connection — internal or external — to be authenticated, authorized, and continuously validated before granting access to applications and data.
Context & Usage
ZTNA replaces VPN-style "perimeter trust" with identity-based access at the application level. Implementations: Zscaler Private Access, Cisco ZTNA, Palo Alto Prisma Access, Cloudflare Access. Hardware impact: typically deployed as cloud services, but on-prem ZTNA brokers exist (HashiCorp Boundary, OpenZiti).
