Context & Usage

IAM includes user provisioning, authentication, authorization, MFA, SSO, and identity governance. Major platforms: Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Okta, Ping Identity, ForgeRock. Hardware impact: IAM platforms run on standard application server hardware; primary scaling factor is user count (1K-1M users = wide range of capacity).
