A security standard for organizations that store, process, or transmit credit card information.
Context & Usage
PCI-DSS has 12 requirements covering firewall configuration, encryption, access control, monitoring, and security testing. Current version is v4.0 (mandatory from March 2025). Hardware configuration affects PCI-DSS compliance: network segmentation, encryption at rest, FIPS 140-2 cryptography modules. Refurbished hardware is fully PCI-DSS compatible — compliance is about configuration, not acquisition channel.
