MTTR — Mean Time To Repair

Definition

The average time required to repair a failed component and restore service.

Context & Usage

MTTR depends on detection time (monitoring), parts availability (warranty / spare-parts inventory), and procedure complexity. Typical MTTR: hot-swappable drives ~5 minutes, hot-swappable PSU ~10 minutes, motherboard replacement ~2 hours. Lower MTTR = higher overall system availability.

Examples

  • Hot-swap drive: MTTR ~5 min
  • Cold motherboard swap: MTTR ~2-4 hr
