About Drive Caddies & Trays

Lenovo ThinkSystem drive caddies and trays are needed when adding drives to bays that shipped empty, replacing a damaged carrier, or swapping a drive from one server to another. We stock the full set of Lenovo-original SFF and LFF drive caddies for every ThinkSystem generation — Gen1 through Gen4 platforms (SR530, SR550, SR570, SR630, SR650, SR670, SR635, SR860, SR950).

Lenovo Drive Caddy Options

SFF (2.5") caddies fit the 8/16/24-bay configurations on 1U and 2U ThinkSystem servers. LFF (3.5") caddies fit the 12/14-bay LFF chassis on the SR650 and SR860 LFF models. All carriers are genuine Lenovo OEM with the correct part numbers (SFF: 01KP988, 7XB7A05901; LFF: 03X3835, 7XB7A05902).

Frequently Asked Questions

What drive caddy fits Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650?

Lenovo SR650 (1st gen) uses Lenovo part number 7XB7A05901 for 2.5" SFF SAS / SATA drive carriers, and 7XB7A05902 for 3.5" LFF carriers. SR650 V2 / V3 use the updated 4XF7A82340 (SFF) and 4XF7A82341 (LFF) carriers — the locking mechanism is slightly different.

Are Lenovo caddies interchangeable across ThinkSystem generations?

Gen1-3 caddies (01KP988, 7XB7A05901) are compatible with each other across SR530/550/570/630/650 V1. Gen4 caddies (4XF7A82340) are required for SR650 V3 / SR670 V3 / SR860 V3 due to the new tooless drive insertion mechanism. We label each SKU with the supported generations.

Can I use a generic / 3rd-party caddy in a Lenovo server?

Generic caddies physically fit the bay but may not include the activity/fault LED PCB. The drive will work but you lose front-panel LED indication of failures. For production environments we recommend genuine Lenovo caddies. Generic carriers are appropriate for lab / test environments.

Do Lenovo caddies come with the screws and rail?

Yes — every caddy we ship includes the 4 captive drive-mounting screws appropriate for the drive form factor (SFF caddies include 2.5" drive screws, LFF caddies include 3.5" drive screws), plus the bay rail / locking lever. No additional hardware required.
