Lenovo ThinkSystem servers use memory with strict QVL (Qualified Vendor List) compatibility — install non-validated DIMMs and the server will downgrade to a slower speed or refuse to POST. We carry a full inventory of Lenovo-validated DDR4 RDIMM, LRDIMM, and DDR5 ECC modules for the entire ThinkSystem range — SR530, SR550, SR570, SR630, SR650, SR670, SR635, and the SR860/SR950 high-density platforms.

Lenovo ThinkSystem Memory Options

Capacities range from 16GB single-rank RDIMMs to 256GB octal-rank LRDIMMs. Speeds match each platform's max — DDR4-2933 on Cascade Lake (SR630/650), DDR4-3200 on Ice Lake (SR650 V2), DDR5-4800 on Sapphire Rapids (SR650 V3, SR670 V3). All modules are verified against Lenovo's QVL before listing.

Mixed-DIMM configurations are supported across the same channel as long as rank and speed match. We provide configuration guidance for population rules on contact.

What memory is compatible with Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650?

Lenovo SR650 (1st gen) supports DDR4-2666/2933 RDIMM and LRDIMM, up to 24 DIMM slots, max 1.5TB. Validated Lenovo part numbers include 7X77A01302 (32GB DDR4-2933 RDIMM), 7X77A01304 (64GB DDR4-2933 LRDIMM). SR650 V2 supports DDR4-3200 (Ice Lake), SR650 V3 supports DDR5-4800 (Sapphire Rapids).

Do Lenovo servers require Lenovo-branded memory?

Lenovo ThinkSystem servers will accept generic DDR4/DDR5 ECC RDIMM that matches the QVL specifications (rank, speed, capacity), but for production environments with Lenovo XClarity monitoring we recommend Lenovo-branded modules so health alerts and warranty support remain fully covered.

Can I mix RDIMM and LRDIMM in the same Lenovo server?

No. ThinkSystem servers require all DIMMs in the same channel to be the same type (RDIMM OR LRDIMM, not mixed). You can mix capacities and speeds within a rank, but RDIMM and LRDIMM cannot coexist on the same channel. The server will refuse to POST if mixed.

What is the maximum memory I can install in a Lenovo SR650 V3?

Lenovo SR650 V3 (Sapphire Rapids generation) supports up to 8TB DDR5 across 32 DIMM slots with 256GB LRDIMM modules. For DDR5-4800 RDIMM the max is 4TB with 128GB modules. We carry both module densities in stock.
