Aruba-era optics carry JL and JW part numbers and are what you need for the current switching families — Aruba CX, 2530, 2930F, 2930M and 3810. They are a different coding family from the older ProCurve J-numbers, which is the most common mis-order we see.

ArubaOS-Switch and AOS-CX are different platforms

This matters more than people expect. The 2530, 2930F, 2930M and 3810 run ArubaOS-Switch; the CX line runs AOS-CX, which is an entirely different operating system with a different CLI and different transceiver handling. An optic that is happy in a 2930F is not automatically the right part for a CX 6200.

We deliberately do not publish a blanket Aruba compatibility table, because the honest answer varies by platform, firmware and port. Send us the switch model and firmware version and we will confirm the right optic for that exact combination.

What is the difference between ArubaOS-Switch and AOS-CX?

ArubaOS-Switch is the operating system on the 2530, 2930F, 2930M and 3810 families, descended from the ProCurve software line. AOS-CX is a newer, database-driven operating system running on the Aruba CX switches. They have different CLIs, different feature sets and different automation models — configurations do not transfer between them.

Are ProCurve J-number optics compatible with Aruba switches?

Not reliably. ProCurve-era J-number optics and Aruba-era JL/JW optics are different coding families. Some combinations work, many do not, and the result depends on the specific switch and firmware. Do not assume interchangeability — check the exact pairing first.

Do Aruba switches reject third-party transceivers?

Aruba platforms read vendor data from the module and behaviour varies — some log an unsupported-transceiver message and still pass traffic, others are stricter. Correctly coded third-party optics generally work well. Tell us the platform and we will supply modules coded appropriately.

Which optics do Aruba 2930F uplink ports take?

The 2930F ships in several variants with different uplink port configurations, including 1G SFP and 10G SFP+ options. The correct optic depends on which variant you have, so check the model string on the unit rather than the series name alone.
