HP ProLiant SAS Hard Drives — 10K & 15K SFF

Option-kit and spare part numbers for every ProLiant generation, G5 through Gen11

About ProLiant SAS Drives

When a ProLiant drive fails, iLO gives you a spare part number (-001) while HPE's store only lists the option kit (-B21) — and at end-of-life, neither is orderable from HPE at all. We stock both sides of that part-number split: thousands of HP and HPE SAS drives from 300 GB 10K SFF workhorses to 2.4 TB 12Gb/s dual-port drives, each shipped in the correct smart carrier or hot-plug tray for your generation.

What We Stock

  • 10K RPM SFF SAS — 300 GB, 600 GB, 900 GB, 1.2 TB, 1.8 TB, 2.4 TB (the virtualization and database standard)
  • 15K RPM SAS — 300 GB to 900 GB for latency-critical transactional workloads
  • Midline SATA/SAS LFF — 1 TB to 20 TB 7.2K for backup targets and bulk tiers
  • Gen8/Gen9 smart carrier and G5–G7 hot-plug tray variants — the carrier generation matters, and we label it on every listing

Cross-referencing a spare number to its option kit? Send us either number — we verify the mapping before dispatch. Request a volume quote for array rebuilds and fleet refreshes; matched firmware revisions available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between HP -B21 and -001 part numbers?

A -B21 suffix is the option kit number — the orderable retail SKU with carrier and packaging. A -001 suffix is the spare part number printed on the drive label itself and reported by iLO when a drive fails. They refer to the same physical drive. We stock and cross-reference both, so you can order with whichever number you have.

Which drives fit an HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9?

The DL380 Gen9 uses 2.5" SAS/SATA drives in HPE Smart Carrier (Gen8/Gen9 style, with the ejection lever and DO NOT REMOVE indicator) or 3.5" LFF carriers. Any 12Gb/s or 6Gb/s SAS drive in the correct smart carrier works — common choices are 600GB/1.2TB 10K SAS for VMs and 4TB+ midline for storage tiers.

Are Gen8 and Gen9 drive carriers interchangeable?

Yes — Gen8 and Gen9 share the same Smart Carrier design, and Gen10 continues it. But G5–G7 hot-plug trays are a different, older design and are NOT compatible with Gen8+ bays. Check which carrier generation your server uses before ordering; every drive we ship includes the correct carrier.

Can I use a third-party or Seagate drive in a ProLiant?

Yes. ProLiant servers accept any SAS/SATA drive that meets the interface spec; the Smart Array controller will show it as an unsupported-but-functional drive. For full iLO health monitoring and firmware updates, HPE-branded drives are preferred — which is what we ship, with genuine HPE firmware.
