Enterprise SAS Hard Drives

10K & 15K RPM SAS drives for Dell, HP, and Lenovo servers

About SAS Hard Drives

SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) hard drives are the backbone of enterprise storage — delivering higher reliability, faster throughput, and dual-port redundancy that SATA drives cannot match. Every data center, server room, and SAN relies on SAS drives for mission-critical workloads.

We stock enterprise SAS drives from Seagate, Western Digital (HGST), and Toshiba in all standard capacities and speeds.

SAS Drive Quick Reference

  • 300GB 10K/15K SAS — Legacy servers, high-IOPS databases
  • 600GB 10K/15K SAS — Most popular enterprise capacity
  • 900GB/1.2TB 10K SAS — Balanced performance and capacity
  • 2TB/4TB 7.2K SAS — Nearline storage, backup, archival
  • SAS 12Gb/s (SAS3) — Current generation, backward compatible with SAS2 (6Gb/s)

All drives are tested and ship with a compatibility guarantee for Dell, HP, and Lenovo servers. Need drives with caddies? See our Dell and HP caddy pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SAS and SATA drives?

SAS drives offer dual-port connectivity (redundancy), faster rotational speeds (10K/15K vs 7.2K RPM), full-duplex communication, and enterprise-grade reliability (2M hours MTBF vs 1M for SATA). SAS costs more per TB but is required for mission-critical workloads. SATA is fine for read-heavy, non-critical storage.

Can I use SAS drives in a SATA slot?

No. SAS drives require a SAS backplane and SAS/RAID controller. However, SATA drives CAN be used in SAS backplanes — SAS is backward compatible with SATA. The reverse is not true.

What does 10K and 15K mean for SAS drives?

10K (10,000 RPM) and 15K (15,000 RPM) refer to the spindle rotation speed. 15K drives deliver ~30% more IOPS than 10K but cost more and come in smaller capacities (max 600GB). 10K drives offer the best balance of performance and capacity for most enterprise workloads.
