Cisco Compatibility: Native vs. Compatible Transceivers

Cisco Catalyst switches (IOS-based) will display a warning for third-party transceivers: `` %TRANSCEIVER-6-POLICY_MATCH: Transceiver in Gi1/0/1 is non-Cisco GBIC ``

This is a warning, not an error. Compatible transceivers continue working after the warning unless you have configured service unsupported-transceiver disabled (rare).

Cisco Nexus switches running NX-OS may require the service unsupported-transceiver command to enable third-party modules: `` nexus# conf t nexus(config)# service unsupported-transceiver ``

This is a standard configuration step. Cisco does not block compatible transceivers at the hardware level — this is purely a licensing message.
