Adtran Total Access Systems

Total Access is Adtran's integrated access line — equipment that terminates a carrier circuit and splits it into voice and data services at the customer premises. It is carrier and service-provider equipment far more than enterprise IT equipment, which shapes how it should be bought.

The two halves of the range

• TA900 series — customer-premises business gateways, combining routing with analogue voice ports and T1/PRI termination
• TA5000 series — central-office and remote-terminal access nodes, chassis-based and modular

Buy by circuit type, not by model

These platforms exist to terminate specific circuit types. A unit built for T1/PRI is not a substitute for one built around Ethernet handoff, and the FXS port count determines how many analogue devices you can actually connect. Ordering on model family alone reliably produces the wrong box.

Total Access units also very often arrive carrier-locked or carrying a provider configuration, since most were deployed as managed CPE. Factory reset typically requires physical console access.

The TA5000 is chassis-based, so line cards, common equipment and the chassis itself are separate purchases and slot compatibility matters.
