Adtran NetVanta Routers & Switches

NetVanta is Adtran's enterprise branch line — routers, Ethernet switches and unified-communications platforms aimed squarely at multi-site businesses and the service providers who supply them. It is very widely deployed in US branch networks and in carrier-managed CPE estates.

Series breakdown

• NetVanta 3000 series — compact branch routers
• NetVanta 4000 series — mid-range branch routing with more interface options
• NetVanta 5000 series — higher-capacity modular routing
• NetVanta 1500 / 1600 series — Ethernet access switches, PoE variants available

AOS and the modular interface question

NetVanta hardware runs ADTRAN Operating System (AOS), which is consistent across the line and makes configurations reasonably portable between models within a series.

The modular routers accept interface modules for different WAN circuit types — T1, serial, Ethernet and others depending on platform. Module compatibility is specific to the chassis and slot, so a module from one NetVanta series will not necessarily work in another. That is the most common ordering mistake with this line.
