Adtran NetVanta Routers & Switches

AOS-based branch routing, switching and unified communications hardware

About NetVanta Routers & Switches

NetVanta is Adtran's enterprise branch line — routers, Ethernet switches and unified-communications platforms aimed squarely at multi-site businesses and the service providers who supply them. It is very widely deployed in US branch networks and in carrier-managed CPE estates.

Series breakdown

  • NetVanta 3000 series — compact branch routers
  • NetVanta 4000 series — mid-range branch routing with more interface options
  • NetVanta 5000 series — higher-capacity modular routing
  • NetVanta 1500 / 1600 series — Ethernet access switches, PoE variants available

AOS and the modular interface question

NetVanta hardware runs ADTRAN Operating System (AOS), which is consistent across the line and makes configurations reasonably portable between models within a series.

The modular routers accept interface modules for different WAN circuit types — T1, serial, Ethernet and others depending on platform. Module compatibility is specific to the chassis and slot, so a module from one NetVanta series will not necessarily work in another. That is the most common ordering mistake with this line.

Adtran hardware often arrives ex-carrier and may carry a provider configuration. Tell us the model and what circuit type you are terminating and we will confirm the right chassis and module combination.

Frequently Asked Questions

What operating system do Adtran NetVanta devices run?

ADTRAN Operating System, usually abbreviated AOS. It is used consistently across NetVanta routers and switches, which makes configuration reasonably portable between models in the same series.

Are NetVanta interface modules interchangeable between models?

Not universally. Modules are specific to particular chassis and slot types, and a module that fits one NetVanta series may not be supported in another. Confirm chassis, slot and module together rather than ordering by interface type alone.

Do Adtran NetVanta switches support PoE?

Several NetVanta switch models offer PoE variants, and the available power budget varies by model. Because PoE and non-PoE versions often share a similar model name, check the exact part number rather than the series when PoE matters.

Can Adtran routers be reset if they arrive with a carrier configuration?

Yes, AOS supports a password recovery and factory reset procedure, which is commonly needed on ex-carrier units. Physical console access is required. Tell us if you would like units supplied in a known state.
