About Cable Management Arms

A cable management arm (CMA) attaches to the back of a server's sliding rail kit and organizes the power and data cables so the server can be pulled forward for service without disconnecting anything. As the server slides out, the hinged arm extends and folds neatly; slide it back and the arm retracts. For any server you service in-rack, a CMA turns a cable-unplugging chore into a two-minute slide-out.

Cable management arms are rail- and model-specific — a CMA is designed for a particular sliding rail kit and chassis depth, so it must match both your server model and its rails (static rails generally cannot use a CMA). We stock CMAs for Dell PowerEdge and HP ProLiant, plus IBM/Lenovo and other platforms. If you are also replacing the rails, order the matching rail kit together.

What does a cable management arm do?

A CMA mounts on the rear of a server's sliding rails and holds the power and data cables in a hinged, extending arm. This lets you pull the server forward out of the rack for service — replacing drives, fans, or DIMMs — without unplugging any cables. When you slide the server back, the arm folds away. It saves time and prevents accidental disconnections during maintenance.

Will any cable management arm fit my server?

No. A CMA is designed for a specific sliding rail kit, chassis depth, and 1U/2U height. It must match both your server model and its rails — and static (non-sliding) rails usually cannot use a CMA at all. Order the CMA that matches your server generation, or send us the rail part number and we will confirm compatibility.

Do I need sliding rails to use a CMA?

Yes. A cable management arm only works with a sliding (extendable) rail kit, because the arm extends and retracts as the server moves in and out of the rack. If your server is on static rails, it cannot slide out, so a CMA has nothing to attach to or extend with. If you want in-rack serviceability, plan for sliding rails plus the matching CMA.
