Desktop hard drive shopping splits into two very different needs: a modern SATA drive for everyday storage, or an exact-generation replacement for an older machine that cannot simply take "whatever is available." We stock both ends — 3.5-inch desktop drives spanning IDE/ATA-66/100/133 through SATA 1.5Gb/s, 3Gb/s and 6Gb/s, in capacities from legacy 6–80GB drives up to modern multi-terabyte SATA units, pulled largely from decommissioned Dell, HP, and Gateway desktops plus standalone Seagate, WD, and Fujitsu mechanisms.

  • IDE / ATA (Ultra ATA-66/100/133) — for pre-2007 desktops that predate SATA entirely; capacities typically 6GB–250GB
  • SATA 1.5Gb/s & 3Gb/s — the SATA I/II generation used through the mid-2010s, still the correct match for that era's Dell OptiPlex and HP Compaq towers
  • SATA 6Gb/s — current-generation interface for any modern desktop build or upgrade
  • 7200 & 5400 RPM — both spindle speeds stocked; RPM affects rebuild/copy time more than day-to-day desktop use

Can I put a SATA drive in an old IDE-only desktop?

Not directly — the connectors and signaling are physically and electrically different. Some IDE-to-SATA bridge adapters exist, but the safest and most reliable fix for a legacy desktop is a matching IDE replacement drive, which is why we keep ATA-66/100/133 stock rather than relying on adapters.

What is the difference between SATA 1.5Gb/s, 3Gb/s and 6Gb/s?

These are successive SATA revisions (SATA I, II, III) with rising maximum interface bandwidth. They are backward compatible — a 3Gb/s drive works in a 1.5Gb/s port at the lower speed — so for an older desktop board, matching or exceeding the board's native SATA generation is safe. The bottleneck on a mechanical hard drive is usually the platters, not the interface, so the practical speed difference is small.

Do you test these drives before shipping?

Yes — every desktop hard drive is surface-tested and SMART-checked before it ships. These are working pulls and tested surplus, not as-is/untested drives.
