About Laptop Memory

Notebook memory is compact but not universal — SODIMM pin count (200, 204 or 260) and voltage class both narrow down which module a given laptop generation accepts. We stock SODIMM memory across DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4, sourced from Dell, HP, and generic notebook pulls alongside branded Micron, Samsung, Kingston and Hynix modules, covering everything from 128MB legacy sticks to modern multi-gigabyte DDR4 kits.

  • DDR2 (200-pin, PC2-4200 through PC2-6400) — mid-2000s notebook generation
  • DDR3 (204-pin, PC3-8500 through PC3-12800) — the most common notebook memory generation, including low-voltage 1.35V variants
  • DDR4 (260-pin, PC4-17000 and up) — current-generation notebook memory, typically 1.2V

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between regular and low-voltage (1.35V) DDR3 SODIMM?

Standard DDR3 runs at 1.5V; DDR3L ("low voltage") runs at 1.35V for better battery life in ultrabooks. Most DDR3L-compatible laptops can also run standard 1.5V modules (the board auto-adjusts), but some ultrabooks are 1.35V-only — check your laptop's spec before ordering standard-voltage memory.

How much memory can my laptop actually support?

This is set by the motherboard chipset, not the SODIMM slots alone — many older notebooks physically have two slots but only support 8GB total even if larger modules exist. Send us your laptop model and we will confirm the real maximum before you buy more than your board can use.

Do I need to match both SODIMM modules if I have two slots?

For dual-channel performance, yes — matching capacity, speed, and ideally brand across both slots lets the memory controller run in dual-channel mode. Mismatched modules still work, but the system runs single-channel, which is a real but usually minor performance loss for typical laptop use.
