Dell EqualLogic PS Series Parts

EqualLogic drives, carriers and controller modules for PS Series iSCSI arrays

About EqualLogic Storage

Dell EqualLogic PS Series arrays are iSCSI SAN storage built around a pair of controller modules and a set of drives that the array pools together. Dell has ended sales of the PS Series, so installed arrays are kept running with spares: most often a failed drive, a controller module or a controller battery.

Controller modules are identified by Type

EqualLogic controllers carry a Type number that ties them to particular array models, and the listings in this lineup name the arrays each module was sold for. For example, Type 11 modules were sold for the PS6100 family, Type 12 for the PS4100 family, Type 18 for the PS6210 and Type 19 for the PS4210. Both controllers in an array should be the same Type.

Before you order

  • Drives need EqualLogic firmware and carriers. PS Series arrays expect drives supplied for EqualLogic in the matching carrier. A generic drive of the same capacity is not a like-for-like replacement.
  • Match by part number and array model. Quote the Dell part number from the drive or controller label and the array model, for example PS6100X or PS4100E.
  • Keep firmware consistent. Both controllers in an array run the same PS Series firmware, so check the firmware level when adding a replacement module.

Send us the part number and array model and we will confirm the exact match.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a standard Dell PowerEdge drive in an EqualLogic array?

No. EqualLogic arrays expect drives supplied with EqualLogic firmware in EqualLogic carriers. Order the replacement by the Dell part number on the original drive and the array model.

What does the Type number on an EqualLogic controller mean?

It identifies the controller generation and the PS Series arrays it fits. For example, Type 11 modules were sold for the PS6100 family, Type 12 for the PS4100 family, Type 18 for the PS6210 and Type 19 for the PS4210. Both controllers in an array should be the same Type.

Is Dell EqualLogic still supported?

Dell has ended sales of the EqualLogic PS Series. Check Dell's support site with the array's Service Tag for the support status of your unit.
