Cisco UCS Server Parts

Cisco-PID memory, drives, processors and adapters for UCS C-Series and B-Series

About UCS Server Parts

Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) servers come in two forms: C-Series rack servers such as the C220 and C240, and B-Series blades such as the B200, which run in a UCS 5108 chassis behind fabric interconnects. Both are built from components that Cisco sources from memory, drive and adapter makers and sells under its own product IDs (PIDs).

Reading a Cisco UCS part number

  • UCS-MR-…: memory modules
  • UCS-HD… / UCS-SD…: hard drives and solid-state drives
  • UCS-CPU-…: processors
  • UCSC-…: C-Series rack server components such as risers, controllers and power supplies
  • A trailing = on a Cisco PID marks the spare version of the part, sold on its own as a field replacement

Before you order

  • Generation. UCS servers are identified by model and generation (M3, M4, M5, M6 and so on). Memory type, processor socket and drive carriers change between generations.
  • Managed or standalone. Servers managed by UCS Manager or Intersight identify components by Cisco PID, so Cisco-PID parts are the safe choice in a managed domain.
  • VIC adapters. Cisco Virtual Interface Cards connect UCS servers to the fabric. The right VIC depends on the server model and the fabric interconnect generation.

Send us the PID and server model and we will confirm the exact match.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the = sign mean in a Cisco part number?

A trailing equals sign marks the spare version of a Cisco product ID: the part sold on its own as a field replacement rather than configured into a new system.

What is the difference between Cisco UCS C-Series and B-Series?

C-Series servers are rack servers that can be managed on their own through the built-in Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC), or centrally by UCS Manager or Intersight. B-Series servers are blades that run inside a UCS 5108 chassis and are managed through fabric interconnects running UCS Manager.

Can I use non-Cisco memory or drives in a UCS server?

Cisco supports UCS servers with Cisco-PID components, and UCS Manager reports components it does not recognise. For a supported configuration, and for any server inside a managed UCS domain, use Cisco-PID parts.

What does M5 or M6 mean on a Cisco UCS server?

It is the generation. Each generation is built around a different processor platform, so memory, processors and many other components are generation-specific. The generation is part of the model name on the server label, as in UCS C240 M5.
